First Step in Intercessory Prayer

First Step in Intercessory Prayer

Prepare Your Heart! Intercessors, it is time to prepare your heart to hear God’s Voice. Victory in spiritual warfare does not come from just repeating a few verses. It comes from connecting with the One Who knows the hearts of all men and women! Are you connecting with the One who can lead you and guide you? It begins in your heart! Your heart is where God reveals Himself to you and chooses to have fellowship with you; and it is also in your heart where satan attacks, trying to infiltrate in an effort to cut off your intimacy with the Lord. Proverbs 4:23 says, Above all else, guard your heart, for it affects everything you do. (NLT) The condition of your heart is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY! When you sense God convicting you of sin, yield to His hand – don’t you dare hang onto them –  your harvest is at stake! Psalm 66:18 says, If you regard iniquity in your heart the Lord will not hear you! Sin blocks our communication with God and intercessory prayer is all about communicating with God! It is time to cultivate your heart! Plow up those things that are weighing you down and hindering you from connecting with the One Who has everything you need! Rick Renner said in his book (You Can Get Over It) “There is only one reason weeds grow out of control in a garden – because no one took the proper time and care to uproot and remove them … The only way you can stay free of the weeds the devil wants to sow in your “garden” is to be attentive, careful, thorough and meticulous about the condition of your heart”. So let’s get meticulous about the condition of our hearts! God has me on a journey … it is the journey of the heart and I hope you will join me. My focus in 2015 is THE HEART; the condition of my heart, and praying for the hearts of my loved ones to be soft toward God and to return to Him with ALL their hearts! I hope you will take this journey with me. Forgive Your Prodigal

Forgive Your Prodigal

Has your prodigal hurt you with their words and actions? Have you hurt them as well? When in a spiritual battle, it is important to keep your heart right before God so that your prayers are not hindered. Bitterness is a tool the enemy uses to separate you from each other. “Satan” in the Greek is the word, Diabolos, which signifies, “separator and slanderer” or, “malignant accuser.” In other words, one who puts something between two people in order to separate. Satan separates by slandering and uses hatred, malice, envy and jealousy. He plants his accusations against you in the heart of your wayward loved ones. One of his names is the “accuser of the brethren” (Revelations 12:10). So guard your heart from this tactic of the enemy? If he can separate you from your loved one through bitterness and offense, he can keep you from ministering to them as well. When the prodigal son came home, his father saw him from afar and was already prepared to receive him. The father’s heart was right before God and even though he had every right to be angry, he choose to forgive and offered unconditional love. Loving your prodigal unconditionally does not mean that you enable them and never confront them. But it does mean you love them with the love of God and you release the bitterness in your heart. If you have resentment in your heart regarding your prodigals, let it go. Don’t wait until they come home. Your prodigal cannot see clearly. Pray that God opens their eyes and reveals truth to them. If you are struggling with forgiving your prodigal, take some time to journal how you are feeling. This will help you to unload your hurts and work through your feelings … and get God’s perspective about the situation. You can love them as an act of your will. … because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. Rom. 5:5 KJV XOXO Debra Follow...

Don’t Give Up – Decree and Declare God’s Word

Posted by on Sep 8, 2014 in Don't Give Up, How to Pray | Comments Off on Don’t Give Up – Decree and Declare God’s Word

Don’t Give Up – Decree and Declare God’s Word

Don’t Give Up – Decree God’s Word! When you are praying for your wayward loved ones and you don’t see God move the circumstances, don’t give up. When your son is arrested or your teenage daughter is promiscuous, lay hold of God’s promise that “the seed of the righteous shall be delivered” (Proverbs 11:21). Decree and Declare God’s Word Job 22:28 says, Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways. Declare What God Declares About Your Prodigals! So it is when I declare something. My word will go out and not return to Me empty, But it will do what I wanted; it will accomplish what I determined. Is 55:11 VOICE When your spouse wants to leave you for someone else, you can stand for your marriage and declare that “what God has joined together, let man not separate” (Mark 10:9). Don’t Give Up! When people experience trials of this nature, many times they feel like crawling back into bed, pulling the covers over their head, fall asleep and hope that it’s all a bad dream. But you are not left without hope. Dig your heels of faith into God’s Word and do not be moved by what your eyes see. Trust God with a confident expectancy, not a constant anxiety. Pray and believe God’s promises, leaving the rest to Him. I am not speaking of a “name it and claim it” theology, but rather a knowing that you are in a covenant relationship with God. He has promised to keep His word! Man has a free will but your prayers allow God to move more freely upon your prodigal. So don’t give up. Stand strong, for God “is able to do exceedingly above all that you ask or think” (Ephesians 3:20). Take your eyes off the outward appearances and circumstances in your wayward loved one’s life, and aim your prayers towards their heart. “God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7 NASU) If you remove the seductive, gloomy and attention-catching clothes, hair and makeup, and peel back the hardened layers of their heart, you will most likely find a person who is hurting and longing to be accepted and loved. This goes without saying for our prodigals as well. Underneath all the layers of rebellion, anger, bitterness, flashy attire, colored hair and foul language is a person hungering to be loved, healed and accepted. Sometimes the layers are so thick that they cannot even admit their need, for they can’t even see it anymore. Bitterness has blinded them. But your prayers will help remove some of those layers so that they can see the truth, “and the truth will set them free” (John 8:32). God loves your prodigals more than you do. Ask Him to show you their hearts, their pain, and their needs through His eyes. And then pray for His touch on their hearts. Once you see them through God’s eyes, you will be in the right place to pray for them. The last thing they need is your judgment. If you have been blinded by their outward actions and appearance, confess your judgmental attitude as sin and...

What is A Prodigal

What is A Prodigal

A prodigal is someone who has turned away from God and left their first love for Him. At the root of a backslidden heart is a hardened heart. The heart is where we become who we are. This is why we are told to guard our heart with all diligence, for it determines the course of your life. A hardened heart is no longer sensitive to the voice of God and has become spiritually dull. Jesus himself described people whose hearts had become dull and calloused: Or this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears … understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them. Matthew 13:15 Your wayward loved one might be a spouse, child, parent, brother, sister, friend, stranger or, possibly, you. At times, many of us have walked the prodigal path in one form or another. The term “prodigal” comes from Jesus’ parable in Luke 15:11-31. These verses depict the wayward loved one who fell deep into sin and lost close fellowship with his Father. The major theme of this parable is the restoration of a believer into fellowship with his father. And it is a story of a father who is eagerly awaiting his son’s return. The son had to learn the hard way that choosing this lifestyle would lead to heartache, dissatisfaction and disappointment. Even though your lost loved one may have to go through some difficult lessons, there is hope! God will instruct you about how to cultivate his or her heart and plant the seed of His Word. Of prime importance, you’ll learn how to cultivate your heart; for unless its soil is soft to the Master’s touch, you won’t be receptive to His instructions about how to pray for others. Remember, prayer is relationship not performance. Even when you don’t know how to pray, the Holy Spirit will pray through you. But there is hope. If there is one thing I have learned, it is “do not underestimate God!” He can soften the hardest of hearts! Nothing is impossible with Him! Pray for Your Prodigal Spouse

Posted by on Sep 7, 2014 in How to Pray, Pray For Your Prodigal Spouse | Comments Off on Pray for Your Prodigal Spouse

Pray for Your Prodigal Spouse

Has Your Spouse Strayed From God? There are verses in the Bible that declare that unsaved loved ones receive special attention by God because of the presence of a believer within the family. “For the unbelieving husband has been sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife has been sanctified through her believing husband” (1Corinthians 7:14 NIV). Matthew 19:5 says, “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.” You and your spouse are one flesh. When your spouse sins he gives Satan ground to work in his life. But because in God’s eyes you are one flesh, you can pray the Word of God for your spouse with the same authority that you pray for yourself. Satan’s legal ground is bypassed by this truth! Halleluiah! For example, think of something that you would pray for yourself like Ezekiel 36:25-27, which states: “Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleanness; and from all your idols will I cleanse you. A new heart will I give you and a new spirit will I put within you, and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you shall heed My ordinances and do them.” (Ezek 36:25-27 AMP) You would pray it this way for yourself: Father, I thank you that Your Word says that You will give me a new heart and put a new spirit within me. You will take away my stony heart and give me a heart of flesh. You will put Your Spirit within me and cause me to walk in Your statutes, and heed your ordinances and do them. When you pray for yourself, you pray this scripture promise in confidence knowing that God will answer, because He says that if you ask anything according to His will He hears you and you have those requests. “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us-whatever we ask-we know that we have what we asked of him.” (1 John 5:14-15 NIV) Praying God’s promises from His word is praying according to His will. So you know when you pray like this He will answer in His time. In this same way you can pray for your spouse with the same confidence that you prayed for yourself, because in God’s eyes you are one flesh. Pray for your spouse like this: Father, I thank you that Your Word says that You will give my spouse a new heart and put a new spirit within him/her. Take away _________’s stony heart and give him/her a heart of flesh according to Your Word. Put Your Spirit within __________ and cause him/her to walk in Your statutes, and heed Your ordinances and do them. Isn’t this exciting? There is hope! So Don’t Give Up! XOXO Debra Follow...

Heart Preparation

Posted by on Sep 7, 2014 in Intercessor's Heart, Prepare Your Heart | Comments Off on Heart Preparation

Heart Preparation

The battle is raging around you … You are standing on the promises of God’s word … Using His word as a sword … And yet, it seems as though you are not breaking through to victory. When this happens it is important to make sure there is no sin in our hearts. In Joshua 7, Israel was defeated in war because there was sin in the camp. Barbara Wentroble, author of Prophetic Intercession says, “Israel’s defeat at Ai was not a failure of God’s promises; it was caused by man’s disobedience … cleansing had to take place before the enemies could be defeated.” It is the same in our lives – cleansing has to take place before our “enemies” can be defeated, whether those enemies are physical, emotional or spiritual. Joshua chapter 7 says that the Israelites were defeated by their enemies because of sin in the camp – the sin of a few men who stole and lied affected more than themselves. When the Israelites went to war, the men of Ai killed about 36 of them. The sin in your life will affect those around you as well. How will your prayers protect them if you are losing the battle due to sin? The Israelites became fearful. Joshua 7:5 says that the hearts of the people melted and became as water. Josh 7:6-13 “And Joshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of the LORD until the eventide, he and the elders of Israel, and put dust upon their heads. And Joshua said, ‘Alas, O Lord GOD, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? Would to God we had been content, and dwelt on the other side Jordan! O Lord, what shall I say, when Israel turneth their backs before their enemies! For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land shall hear of it, and shall environ us round, and cut off our name from the earth: and what wilt thou do unto thy great name?’ And the LORD said unto Joshua, ‘Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face? Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant, which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff. Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed. Neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you. Up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against tomorrow: for thus saith the LORD God of Israel, There is an accursed thing in the midst of thee, O Israel: thou canst not stand before thine enemies, until ye take away the accursed thing from among you.’” KJV Do you want to be victorious in spiritual battles? Then take time in the presence of God and ask Him to reveal if there is anything in your heart that needs cleaning before you go to battle. Journal what He reveals. Ask Him to forgive you and turn from your sin. When you sense...
